Well, I did and they’re lots of fun to make and not as time consuming as the other things I do.

I spoke to the manager and I’m now baking savouries for them. At the moment I’m doing vegetable quiches, as well as, bacon and cheese quiches and I’m happy to say that they’re selling like hot cakes. (Thank You Lord!)

They also have my marshmallow people, which is also selling well. (Thank You Lord!)

Another baker in the area contacted me to make the following cake toppers for her.

Spongebob for a 1st birthday cake. He was going to lean on a nr 1, so his arm had to be made that way. I’ve never made a 3D Spongebob before, but it was a nice challenge and I enjoyed making him. Something I don’t understand is why he has to have so much detail?!?! Was it necessary for them to give him shoes, socks, a collar, a tie, a belt, eyelashes, freckles, etc … etc … too much work for cake decorators! LOL!!

Patrick … Spongebob’s friend. He didn’t take that much time and was just as much fun.

Papa Smurf. He had to sit with his hands behind him and Gareth was my “model”. Every now and again I’d call him into my workroom and ask him to sit on the floor with his hands behind him … we had loads of fun.

We had loads of fun and officially crowned Miss Foo Foo 2012.

In an interview, Miss Foo Foo said she doesn’t want world peace, but instead she wants more underprivileged and orphaned children to be blessed with a handmade rag doll, bunny or other soft toy.

As part of her official duties for the year, she will attend every Sunningdale Evening Market. So come and see her.

Okay … back to the workshops.

Sue and I have received requests for cupcake decorating parties and because it’s more flexible than holding a workshop once a month, we’ve decided to stop the workshops and rather concentrate on doing parties.

In the Cake Decorating workshops we decorated a 7-inch cake and iced and decorated cupcakes. And in the Cupcake Decorating workshops we iced and decorated 12 cupcakes.

We provided everything that was needed and taught icing techniques as well as making sugarpaste decorations for the cakes and cupcakes.

I’m making and selling these Foo Foo Bunny cards at R5,00 each. The egg is 24 x 37mm and has a jelly tot centre and will be wrapped in a variety of coloured foil.

All the profit will go to the Foo Foo Club so they can make more dolls that will brighten a child’s life.

I’ve never heard of the Foo Foo Club before and wanted more info. She told me that the lady who runs it, Heather, gets volunteers together once a month to make dolls and other soft toys for underprivileged children. I was immediately curious and said “yes”.

The next one was held on Saturday 17 March at my craft buddy, Shirley’s house. So off I went, very excited to go and make dolls. I haven’t done anything sewing related in a very long time, purely ‘coz there’s not enough hours in my day.

I arrived and met Heather and all the other ladies (I love meeting new people).

We had coffee and carrot cake (my favourite) to give us energy for the day.

Then the fun started. Heather explained to me what needed to happen and I could choose what I wanted to do…cutting, sewing, stuffing, dressing, painting.

There was a production line in process … some ladies were busy cutting the patterns and nappies, others were sewing the dolls together, others did the stuffing, others made the dresses… etc, etc. And chatting while we worked.

‘Coz I’m creative I was put in charge of “hair, make-up and wardrobe”. I started with the first doll. And decided that I’ll take pics of the process.

She was already made and stuffed and just needed to be finished.

 First step was her hair. Made from wool and it had to be sewn in place.

Then I handed her to the lady who was doing the nappies and she got her nappy.

After that I dressed her and put bows in her hair.

Then off to the “make-up station” where I painted her face.

After that she had buttons sewn on her dress and I finished her off with “shoes”.

I had to give her a name and decided she would be Miss Foo Foo 2012.

This was a lot of fun and it’s so rewarding seeing the dolls come to life and I was scared that I would steal her, so I handed her to Heather to keep safe. Afterall, my handbag was way too small to fit her in   … the ladies had a good laugh at me.

I was involved in completing a few other dolls as well and knowing that you’re doing it to make a child’s life brighter makes it so worth it.

Later in the afternoon it was time for me to go, I didn’t want to, but I had another appointment. On my way out, Heather said that I can take Miss Foo Foo home with me. I nearly burst into tears … What a blessing!!

I’m now the proud owner of Miss Foo Foo 2012. Very soon she’ll be “crowned” and it will be official.

Well done Heather and the Foo Foo Team!! You will definitely see me again.

One bite at a time

… that was the advice I got from my Mom-in-law a while back when I told her about all the orders I had to do and that I didn’t know where to start.

Back home I decided to follow her advice and do all the orders “one bite at a time”.

I sat down and made a list of everything I had to do … it was a very long list, so I decided my next step would be NOT TO PANIC!!

After taking a deep breath, I re-wrote the list on my white board in order of dates they had to be finished. Then I started “eating the elephant” … starting with the first order on my list and only concentrating on that. In the past I would do an order and while I’m busy with it, I’ll think about all the other orders I have to do and that just didn’t work, ‘coz I’ll soon get nervous and start making mistakes. After completing the first order, I’ll wipe it off my white board and carry on with the next one. I soon noticed that the orders on my board were becoming less and less and I realised that “eating and elephant one bite at a time” is working!!

The last few months I ate a lot of elephants … one bite at a time. Here’s some pics of what I did:
